Several Public Relations Events in Hamlin

Monday, August 1, 2011 On Thursday July 14 and Monday July 18 the Hamlin Fire Department participated in several public relations events. On Thursday the Hamlin Public Library hosted the second annual "Big Truck Day". Hamlin Engine 242 with a crew of four relocated to the parking lot of the library and opened the truck up to the public. Attendees toured the truck, learned about the air packs, bunker gear while the crew answered questions and included some fire prevention messages as necessary. Thanks go out to Daryl Prince, Karen Prince and Sal Magovero for their work on that hot pavement.

The following Monday the children from Hamlin Recreation toured the firehouse. The tour traditionally starts of with the children being picked up from the Rec. center and riding to the firehouse in firetrucks. Once here the group was broken into two smaller groups led by a firefighter on a tour of the firehouse. Stops included a powerpoint explaining the job of each truck, the equipment we use, and fire prevention and safety information, SCBA, putting on bunker gear, and using a fire hose. Thanks go to Hannah Deserto, Sal Magovero, Ron Cottorone, Kieth Gay, John Hohman and Mike Lapinski.

Overall the Hamlin Fire Department met somewhere between 80-100 community members in a positive way and had a good time doing it.
